Law enforcement agencies received more than 950 scam call enquiries in the first seven months of 2022, a 60% increase from the same period last year. The amount of losses in investment fraud has significantly increased, from HK$70 million as of Q2 last year to HK$144 million monetary loss in corresponding period this year. The amount of losses in online romance scam in 2022 is about two times larger than last year, more than HK$85 million monetary loss.
In view of the rising number of phone scams and email scams, the Anti-Deception Coordination Center (ADCC) will explain different types of scams, how to identify and prevent them.
