Data is the heart of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the most important asset in today’s enterprises.  AI will inevitably replace some of the jobs and tasks in the finance industry under the VUCA*Digital Era (VUCA starts for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity).  At the same time, AI will also create new jobs and tasks that require human and machine to collaborate.  Those who are AI-ready and data-savvy will not only keep their jobs but also have a prosperous career.  Unless finance professionals treat data seriously as their new second language of business, they will not be able to deliver the competitive advantage and agility demanded by their enterprises and their clients. 

Dr. Charm will share how leading traditional companies, innovative tech companies and start-ups have been making use of data to create values for their customers and how they democratize data mindset and skills (data literacy) to their leaders and employees. He will also explore what roles finance professionals can play in the AI Era.

Dr. Toa Charm has over 30 years of experience in the innovation and technology industry and has served as a senior executive at Cyberport, IBM, Oracle, HSBC and Kingdee.  He is the former Chief Public Mission Officer (CPMO) at the Hong Kong Cyberport where he has established and nurtured a world-leading innovation and technology ecosystem with more than 1,200 start-ups from more than 30 countries, three of them have become multinational unicorns.  Dr Charm’s expertise is in big data, artificial intelligence, fintech, e-commerce, start-up acceleration, and digital transformation of enterprises.  Currently, Dr. Charm is an associate professor in CUHK business school and teaches EMBA, MBA and executive education courses.  He is also the Founder & Chairman of Dr. Charm & Company, and a few elite FinTech, AI, Big Data, eCommerce and ESG start-ups in Asia.

Dr. Charm is active in the innovation and technology ecosystem in Asia.  He is advising and training influential enterprises in Asia on digital transformation, corporate innovation and intrapreneurship.  Dr. Charm has also been invited as an advisor to a few influential organizations including Cyberport, HKSTP, ASTRI, FHKI, HKPC, HKGS1, HK Institute of Bankers, HK Consumer Council, CityU HK Tech 300 and more.  He has been the Chief Judge (FinTech) of the reputable Hong Kong ICT Awards since 2019 till now. He also published his book <數碼力大提升> in 2020 and received the School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award by City University of HK in 2019.
