Highlights

In light of Hong Kong’s new Stablecoin Issuance Ordinance, which took effect in August 2025, and the city’s fast-evolving fintech ecosystem, the HKICPA issued updated guidance in January 2026 on the financial reporting of cryptocurrencies and stablecoins.

This seminar explores

• the application of HKFRS to digital assets, clarifying the accounting distinction between cryptocurrencies—treated under HKAS 2 (Inventories) if held for sale, or HKAS 38 (Intangible Assets) otherwise—and fiat-backed stablecoins, which require a more refined financial asset assessment under HKAS 32 (Financial Instruments: Presentation).
• The discussion will also consider their potential classification as cash equivalents in accordance with HKAS 7 (Statement of Cash Flows).
• The above concepts will be illustrated through an analysis of the published financial statements of a listed company.

Equipped with profound knowledge of International/Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards (I/HKFRS), Eunice is a reputable and well-respected speaker of technical seminars and training to the commercial sector, finance community, universities, government officers and corporates of Hong Kong, Macao and other cities in Asia.

She is the founder of EC Training and Advisory Ltd and Eunice Chu CPA & Co, which delivers professional training to the accounting community through ACCA, the Society of Chinese Accountants and Auditors (SCAA), the Association of Women Accountants (Hong Kong) Limited (AWAHK), Accounting Development Foundation (ADF), the University of Mansford, the government of Macao and Hong Kong. Currently, she is the Committee Member of ACCA Hong Kong and Council member of SCAA.

Prior to that, Eunice was the Head of Policy of ACCA Hong Kong, Regional Finance Director of Asia Pacific Region of Sony Music Asia Inc and Revlon Inc. She had also worked as an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

She holds a Master and Bachelor degree in Business Administration from the University of London and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, respectively. She is a member of ACCA, HKICPA, ISCA, SCAA and AWAHK.
